Favorite cultural heritage. It is a palace that represents the long history of royal families in Korean history, and is one of the most well-known palaces among Koreans. If you’re planning a visit to the palaces around Seoul, you cannot forget to try wearing Korean traditional clothing, known as hanbok. Gyeongbokgung Palace history
Gyeongbokgung Palace was the largest palace built during the Joseon Dynasty. Completed in 1395, the third year of the founding of the Joseon Dynasty, the palace has 390 rooms and is located at the center of Hanyang. Jeong Do-jeon, the founder of the country, received an order from King Taejo to name the first palace, and after much deliberation, he named it Gyeongbokgung (景福宮), meaning that ‘the new dynasty will enjoy great blessings and prosper’. Gyeongbokgung Palace is the largest of the five major palaces: Gyeonghuigung, Deoksugung, Changgyeonggung, and Changdeokgung.
Geunjeongjeon Hall, National Treasure No. 223, was the royal ceremonial hall where various enthronement ceremonies were held. Gyeonghoeru, located next to Geunjeongjeon, has been loved as a representative structure enough to carry the old 10,000 won bill. Recently, a BTS concert was held.
